chicagoPrep to Finish taught three classes at the 2015 JLC Live Remodeling Show and Deck Expo in Chicago.

This is a premier educational event for residential builders and remodelers. We are at once honored and excited to have presented at this event, held at the legendary Navy Pier event center.

We have appeared numerous times in JLC and Pro Deck Builder magazines, and also taught at JLC Live in Providence back in March of this year. Always a high energy and fun crowd, committed to learning and advancing the remodeling trades.

Here is the class description from our Ipe Deck class:

In 2011, frequent JLC and PDB contributors Scott Burt and Todd Pudvar published what quickly became a top Google ranking online article about finishing ipe, which has since accumulated over 400 comments and questions from ipe owners and installers. Scott and Todd will lead a discussion on the essentials of initial finishing and long term maintenance of this popular yet misunderstood exotic deck species.

We also taught an AIA class on painted rail systems:

Building and finishing wooden deck rail systems is often a disproportionately high percentage of overall deck construction costs. At the same time, decks come with a high risk for premature deterioration if not finished correctly. In this session, we will discuss proper pre-finishing, field coating and maintenance strategies for both painted and clear grade rail systems. An in-depth emphasis on surface preparation and how to select products for longevity will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

1.) Illustrate how to source and select quality, long-lasting products and materials.
2.) Describe and discuss details of proper surface preparation and finishes.
3.) Discuss pre-finishing, proper field coating, and maintenance.
4.) Compare various aspects of painted and clear grade rail systems.

**This session is AIA-CES approved for 1.5 LU/HSW.

And, a painting tutorial for remodeling contractors:

Are you a replacement contractor who finds it difficult to hire pro painters for small projects? This is the class to take before your next attempt at painting your own installations. Paint industry trainers Scott Burt and Todd Pudvar will walk you through the correct steps to prep and paint your next window or door installation. Class will include discussion of application tools/methods (brush, foam rollers, sprayers) as well as product selection for best results.

We look forward to returning next year to the Remodeling Show and Deck Expo.
